Google promises a brand-new web client for its latest Nest Cams

With programs like Bluestacks, you can enjoy the look, feel, and functionality of your phone’s Android OS right from your home computer. While there are a handful of emulators to choose from, Bluestacks is known for its reliability, easy layout, and customization options. After a ton of complaints and mistakes, Google’s smart home experience is finally coming together. A nice touch on Google’s part is that you can press a single button to turn all of your cameras off or on.

After entering this info, go into the Play Store, search for Google Home, and clickInstall. To do so, you’ll first want to ensure that your desktop is running the latest version of Chrome. Next, with the Chrome browser launched, you can either click theMoreicon or right-click a blank section of your webpage.

Manage your Nest products

Next to New windows open with, select Homepage from the drop down menu. In continuing with the “We’ll take the best of the Nest experience and fold it into Google Home” theme, over the next few weeks, you’ll have two new ways to access your Google Home’s interface. A new “Favorites” tab allows you to gather your most used devices and shortcuts in a single place. There you can control lighting, scenes, and media playback in a much more polished fashion. You can get access to most of the features now by signing up for the Google Home Public Preview here.

Join the Public Preview to try new Google Home app features early. Luckily, there is no wait time, and everyone can benefit from this update right now by visiting Chat on the web. This goes for all personal accounts, Workspace customers, and even those with legacy G Suite Basic and Business licenses. We can’t figure out which internet browser instructions to show you.

The only issues I’ve noticed so far have been with legacy cameras, which occasionally seem to fail to load on the “grid” view such as my backyard Nest Cam Outdoor below. It’s taken well over a year, but Google’s new Nest cameras finally have a Google Home web app. The experience is still rolling out, but here’s a quick look at what you can expect. Some websites offer built-in cast buttons that stream media to your Google Home or Google Home Mini smart speakers.

His first steps into the Android world were plagued by issues. After running into connectivity problems with the HTC One S, he quickly switched to a Nexus 4, which he considers his true first Android phone. Since then, he has mostly been faithful to the Google phone lineup, though these days, he is also carrying an iPhone in addition to his Pixel 6.

Google Home App Has a New Look and More Powerful Automation

With Google's end-to-end tools for building Matter devices and apps, your devices work with Google Home, and any Matter-enabled apps and ecosystems. First, you’d be able to get to it more easily from devices that don’t offer Google apps. More accessibility means more users, and with the increased focus on dropping the price and lowering the bar of entry for the hardware, the software deserves the same approach, don’t you think? Next, being able to sign in securely from a borrowed device and check on your home security would be useful to many. Available exclusively for iOS and Android devices, you won’t find a dedicated desktop app for running your Google smart home on your Mac or PC.

You can’t view recording history or make clips or control any settings. You can simply view the cameras and turn them off or on. Google says the Home app for web browsers is rolling out over the course of this week. My account first got access last night, October 26, after checking several times since the official announcement.

As of October 2022, the Google Home web app has a single purpose – a live view of your Nest cameras. You can access the web app at home.google.com/u/0/home, but the URL only works if the experience has been rolled out to your account. If you have more than one Nest camera, you can choose how to view your cameras on your browser screen.

On the menu that appears, select the home you wish to switch to. To manage your account and other settings, select Settings . On the left, select the item you want to change settings for. Live video from wired Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 12 hours.

google home web interface

When you first sign into Google Home for web, the screen shows you the live feed of all the Nest cameras in your home. To view the live feed of multiple cameras, select Camera grid view in the upper right. If you have only one Nest camera in your home, Google Home for web automatically shows you a single view of the camera's live stream and controls.

Google Home, Meet Matter

It takes just a few seconds to load up a camera feed after accessing the site, and even with the page open for a while, feeds don’t break. To open a larger view for a specific camera, select the camera's name or live feed. The screen will show the selected camera's feed and a list of all your cameras. The web versions of the Home and Nest apps are optimized to take advantage of your computer's bigger screen and mouse. For example, you can view the live streams of multiple Nest cameras at once, or keep the live stream playing in the background while you work on other things. All websites links must include "https" or "http" to work.

Sign in with your Google Account, then click OK, sync everything or click the Advanced link to customize your sync settings. To sync your tabs, bookmarks, apps, themes and more across all your devices, click the Sign in to Chrome button at the top of the Settings page. Instant access to search, every time you open your browser.

Finally, with a new feature called “Fast Pair for Matter,” Google has rolled out enhanced support for the upcoming Matter smart home standard to Android devices. If it’s a smart device powered by Google Assistant and connected to your home network, you can control it through the Google Home app. Other useful additions might be thermostat controls as well as controls for other smart home devices. I’d also love to see Google turn this into a Progressive Web App so it can deliver some added functionality such as notifications. Live streaming a camera for an extended period may prevent it from recording video if your network doesn’t have enough bandwidth. If you have a battery powered camera, prolonged streaming will use more battery life.

google home web interface

To use Google Home for web with devices originally set up with the Nest app, migrate your Nest Account to a Google Account. With Google Home, your Nest and Matter devices work together reliably to help with your household needs. Just look for smart devices with a Works with Google Home or Matter badge. Or try downloading Google Chrome for a fast, free browsing experience. Chrome runs websites and applications with lightning speed.
